John has had a lifetime of artistic accomplishments, having won his first Art Award at the age of 12.He pursued dual professions of dentistry & art until 1990, when he retired from dentistry to concentrate on a full-time art career. Since then, John has produced books, fired clay works, created sculptures and bronze castings, and painted in oils and watercolours. He has also tutored at a number of art schools and has won 4 potrait prizes since 2005.
John has a classical art education, early influences included Da Vinci, Vernieer and Courbet. The work of Hans Heyson, Eliott Gruner, Andrew Wyeth and Richard Setruid has influenced John's artistic thinking process. However the major influence for his work has always been John's own eyes, a continuing desire to paint and critical self appraisal.

The 2009 exhibition at Rayner Sunset Gallery offers a broad cross-section of different sizes, surfaces and mediums. The subject material includes portraits, sepia drawings and landscapes covering many countries in which John has been privileged to visit and paint.
As this will be a solo show John has taken the opportunity to include what he considers “iconic” works that would not normally be shown in a commercial exhibition or joint show.
At the show John hope's to have the final prototype of the art book he has been working on for the past five years – The story of a legend of the Australian Outback – Harry Readford – alias Captain Starlight.
As there are around 130 drawings and paintings in the book, which will be a leather bound limited edition, it should be of considerable interest to many art lovers.
Johns work is represented in collections world wide, and he has taken part in many solo and combined exhibitions, both in Australia & USA.
