Beric Henderson

Short Bio
Beric Henderson has a background in art and science (PhD in biology, University of Sydney 1990). His art explores both physical and philosophical aspects of creation and how we as humans connect with the world around us.
Beric’s art practice centres on painting and drawing, and his recent projects focus largely on environmental themes that include the impact of climate change on nature and the oceans.
He has contributed to >80 exhibitions throughout Australia, South Korea, Venice and Switzerland since 2003. His work has been shortlisted for exhibition in many national art prizes, most recently the prestigious 2024 Waterhouse natural science art prize (South Australian Museum, Adelaide).
This year, Beric’s artwork can be seen in five separate group exhibitions throughout Australia during May-June 2024, and in two solo exhibitions in Dec 2024.
His work is currently held in various collections including the New Norcia Museum religious art collection (WA) and the Figure1A science art collection in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2019 he contributed to an art-science exhibition at Palazzo Albrizzi in Venice and in 2022/2024 his art won audience favourite awards during exhibition in Lausanne.

Artist Statement
I relocated to Port Macquarie from Sydney in 2016. I wanted to immerse myself in nature and experience the coastal environment. It is such an amazing place - I have spent the last several years developing my own visual language and my art explores our relationship with nature and the oceans.
Recent highlights of my art life:
2017 and 2019: Solo exhibitions at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery.
2019: Spending 11 days in Venice to install and promote five paintings contributed to a group exhibition on the environment and climate change.
2023: Spending 3 weeks in Hobart as Artist-in-residence at the Salamanca Artist Cottage, and preparing for my upcoming Oceans exhibitions in Hobart and Taree late in 2024.
