A Majority of One is a 1961 comedy-drama starring Rosalind Russell and Alec Guinness, adapted from Leonard Spigelgass's successful Broadway play. Russell plays a widowed Brooklyn woman who develops an unexpected relationship with Japanese businessman Koichi Asano, played by Guinness.

POSTER DESIGN FEATURES: A particularly colourful Australian Daybill with a vivid yellow background, deep blue geometric panel and bright red title typography. Illustrated portraits of Rosalind Russell and Alec Guinness dominate the design, with their names incorporated into hanging Japanese lanterns. The combination of Japanese-inspired imagery and bold mid-century colour makes this an especially attractive 1960s Australian poster.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE: Adapted from the successful Broadway production, the film won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Rosalind Russell won Best Actress in the same category. Cinematographer Harry Stradling Sr. also received an Academy Award nomination.
