Augustus Jansson
American illustrator of Swedish heritage, 1866–1931
Bold colour, imaginative creatures and playful figures give Augustus Jansson’s work its distinctive character. An illustrator and designer working across posters, postcards, advertising and children’s books, Jansson brought a wonderfully inventive approach to early twentieth-century commercial art.
His advertisements for the Queen City Printing Ink Company showcase vibrant inks through striking compositions and whimsical characters. His celebrated Ink Beasts Parade transforms imaginary animals into colourful expressions of the company’s products, combining advertising with a sense of humour and adventure.
At Sunset Framing & Gallery in Port Macquarie, we’re bringing these historical designs into today’s homes through our vintage wall décor range. Offered as open edition reproductions, these prints celebrate Jansson’s original artwork while providing an accessible way to add colour, character and design history to your walls.
