Roar is a 1981 adventure film starring Tippi Hedren and Melanie Griffith, made using numerous untrained lions, tigers and other big cats. Importantly for this poster, the film's world premiere was held in Sydney on 30 October 1981, making the Australian theatrical campaign particularly relevant to its release history.

POSTER DESIGN FEATURES: Striking Australian Daybill with huge hand-painted red ROAR lettering over a yellow sun, above illustrated action artwork showing lions and tigers surrounding a vintage car. A prominent burst announces “NOW rated G for the whole family!”, identifying this as advertising for the edited Australian G-rated release rather than the initial Australian version.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE: This is an especially interesting Australian release poster. Roar originally received an Australian NRC/PG-equivalent classification, but was subsequently edited and re-released in Australia with a G rating — exactly the version promoted on this Daybill. The film became notorious for its hazardous production with untrained big cats, and cinematographer Jan de Bont later became the director of Speed and Twister.
