My Bodyguard is a 1980 coming-of-age comedy-drama about a bullied Chicago schoolboy who befriends the school's intimidating outsider for protection, only for their arrangement to develop into a genuine friendship. It marked Tony Bill's feature directing debut and features several young actors at the beginning of significant careers.

POSTER DESIGN FEATURES: Distinctive turquoise, black and white Australian Daybill featuring photographic cut-outs of the young cast and a deliberately cheeky Australian advertising campaign. Of particular interest is the locally tailored headline referencing Australian cricketer Dennis Lillee alongside Superman and Luke Skywalker, giving this poster a strong piece of Australian popular-culture history.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE: My Bodyguard features early performances from Matt Dillon and Adam Baldwin, with Baldwin making his film debut. Joan Cusack appears in her first major film role, while Jennifer Beals has a small uncredited appearance. The Australian-specific Dennis Lillee tagline makes this Daybill particularly interesting compared with overseas poster campaigns.
