2025 Sunset Gallery Memories

2025 has been one of the most challenging years in the 50-year history of Sunset Framing & Gallery — and one of the most important. This was a year where much of the work happened quietly, behind the scenes. Like many small businesses navigating post-COVID financial pressures, rising interest rates, and changes in consumer spending, we made the difficult decision to streamline, refocus, and protect the long game of the business.That meant returning our attention to the core of what we do best: improving customer experience, refining our systems, strengthening our workshop and gallery processes, and introducing the first phase of our online systems. It also meant pulling back — temporarily — on some of the outward-facing arts and community contributions we care so deeply about. That decision was not easy. It was isolating at times, emotionally exhausting, and one of the hardest leadership moments we’ve faced, but it was necessary to ensure this space could continue to exist for the community into the future.Throughout it all, our Friday Crafting Connections group remained a constant — a steady, familiar rhythm that reminded us why this space matters. We are deeply grateful to those who noticed the quieter periods, reached out, checked in, and offered support. Those small acts of care meant more than we can properly express and helped carry us through a year that required resilience on every level.The latter part of 2025 allowed for a gentle return to exhibitions and creative activity — a soft beginning that signals what’s ahead. Many of the plans we once held for this space were interrupted by bushfires, floods, COVID, and ongoing economic shifts, but they were never abandoned. This year laid the groundwork for growth, renewal, and renewed connection.As we close this chapter, we do so with pride, relief, and a deep sense of optimism. 2025 asked everything of us — and we met it. We’re ready to put this year to rest and step into 2026 with energy, clarity, and excitement for what’s possible.
