This previously framed piece came into our workshop after falling from the wall and breaking its glass. While assessing the damage, we also identified another issue worth addressing — the original matboard had significantly aged. One of the visible signs was the mat core, which had changed from white to an orange-brown colour over time. Rather than simply replacing the broken glass, we were able to advise the customer on replacing the deteriorated matboard at the same time, giving the artwork a more suitable framing environment and a refreshed presentation. A frame repair is also a great opportunity to check what’s happening inside the frame, not just fix the obvious damage.
