POSTER DESIGN FEATURES:
Original Australian Daybill featuring colourful fantasy artwork by George Barr. The central composition parodies classic Flash Gordon serial imagery, with Flesh Gordon posed heroically against a circular space-fantasy backdrop surrounded by Dale Ardor, villains, futuristic architecture and comic-book-style science-fiction elements. The oversized red Flesh Gordon title cuts across the lower section, while the poster cheekily carries the line “Not to be confused with the original Flash Gordon.” The supplied example also shows the M.A.P.S. Litho Pty. Ltd. printer credit at lower right. Australian collector references identify Barr as the artist for this Daybill artwork. All About Movies
COLLECTOR’S NOTES:
Flesh Gordon is an independently produced science-fiction sex comedy and parody of the 1930s Flash Gordon serials. It was directed by Michael Benveniste and Howard Ziehm and stars Jason Williams as Flesh Gordon and Suzanne Fields as Dale Ardor. Wikipedia
The film became a cult exploitation title, helped by its intentionally over-the-top production design, spoof names and surprisingly ambitious visual-effects work for an independent production. A sequel, Flesh Gordon Meets the Cosmic Cheerleaders, followed years later. All About Movies
For collectors, the combination of George Barr artwork, cult status, adult parody, science-fiction imagery and the direct Flash Gordon connection makes this one of the more distinctive Australian Daybills in this batch.
