Bold colour, expressive movement and an wonderfully varied choice of subjects define the work of Australian artist Rod Wells.
Rod's collection moves comfortably from familiar Australian coastal landscapes and native birdlife to dramatic international scenery, maritime subjects and even the unmistakable characters of rock and roll. It is this variety, combined with his distinctive use of colour and texture, that makes exploring his work so interesting.
Rod's painting process has evolved over time. His earlier works were created in oils, while his current practice combines Atelier acrylics with traditional oil paint. Each painting begins with a gesso-prepared surface and a burnt sienna wash before the composition is sketched and gradually developed, with oils used to complete the finished work. His newer paintings are created on artist panels.
Currently featured at Sunset Framing & Gallery in Port Macquarie, Rod's collection includes local scenes such as Flynns Beach alongside Australian wildlife, sailing, alpine landscapes and contemporary music-inspired works.
