Sacred Kingfisher — Rod Wells

A flash of brilliant blue against a dramatic dark background, Sacred Kingfisher celebrates one of Australia's beautifully distinctive native birds.

Rod Wells places the Sacred Kingfisher firmly at the centre of this contemporary wildlife artwork, perched quietly on a branch while expressive layers of turquoise, blue, green and yellow radiate around it. The almost-black background intensifies the colour, creating a striking contrast and giving the bird a wonderful sense of presence.

There is an interesting balance between detail and abstraction in this piece. The kingfisher and branch remain clearly defined, while the energetic colour surrounding them becomes looser and more expressive.

Bright, bold and unmistakably Australian, Sacred Kingfisher is a beautiful choice for lovers of Australian birdlife, native wildlife and contemporary nature-inspired art.
