Birds of Prey is a 1973 action thriller starring David Janssen as a former military pilot turned helicopter traffic reporter who witnesses an armed robbery and pursues the criminals and their hostage from the air. Originally made for American television, the film subsequently received theatrical distribution internationally.

POSTER DESIGN FEATURES: Bold turquoise, black and white Australian Daybill dominated by three approaching helicopters and a fleeing woman. The stark photographic treatment, oversized BIRDS OF PREY typography and dramatic tagline give the Australian campaign the appearance of a full-scale theatrical action thriller.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE: Beyond David Janssen and Ralph Meeker, the film has an interesting behind-the-camera connection: cinematographer Jordan Cronenweth later photographed Blade Runner. Australian film publication FilmInk has also highlighted Birds of Prey as an example of a 1970s American telemovie that successfully crossed into overseas cinemas.
